∞ Book Notes on the Intellectual Life
Ivan Mesa catalogs some notes on the fantastic book from 1920, The Intellectual Life by A.G. Sertillanges. This is one of those books that you would do well to read yearly.
This book is a great distillation of the Catholic intellectual tradition, which has much to offer Protestant evangelicals who care about the school of ideas. Sertillanges reminds us that the intellectual life is a calling. As a Catholic, he recognizes that there is a unity of truth grounded in God himself. While he recognizes the importance of breadth of knowledge, he argues that “true knowledge . . . lies in depth” (118).
